Sermons and Studies

Rev. Larry Rice is a preacher and bible teacher whose vision has long been to connect the faith of the average church goer to the real needs of people in crippling financial situations. He has long maintained that to believe that all men and women are made in the image of God but to leave them caught in an unjust system that rewards the greedy should be unconscionable.

Naming Our Illusions
(Proverbs 31:8-9, Luke 4:18-19, Romans 3:4)

Preacher: Chris Rice
Part of the Topical Studies series, preached at a Friday Afternoon service.

Description:

Each person is of extreme value and worth to God. There are no inferior human beings, for we are all His daughters and sons. Our texts today challenge us that there are people who cannot speak up, who cannot protect themselves, who are not protected. The Word of God challenges us to receive the truth that the gospel of Jesus Christ is good news for those people whose back is up against the wall. But are we, his people, willing to number ourselves among those who are wall-bruised?

Proverbs 31:8-9

Open your mouth for the mute,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
defend the rights of the poor and needy. (ESV)

Luke 4:18-19

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” (ESV)

Romans 3:4

By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written,

“That you may be justified in your words,
and prevail when you are judged.” (ESV)
