Part of the Topical Studies series, preached at a Friday Afternoon service.
Have you unwrapped the greatest gift ever given? It was given by the Creator of the universe and recorded in John 3:16 where we read, “God so loved the world that He gave…” Perhaps you have become so familiar with this verse you somehow have not recognized the ultimate gift that it described. It goes on to say, “God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” Those who consciously or unconsciously say “so what,” have missed out on the true significance of that gift. The verse continues, “Whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” This means that while we were yet sinners, destined for hell, God gave us the ultimate gift of His Son who died for our sins, rose from the dead and now invites us to spend eternity with Him.
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). (ESV)
1 Peter 1:3-5
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (ESV)
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (ESV)
